Calling music lovers of all ages! The Angeles Chorale’s spring concert Music for the Child in All of Us features music and entertainment to delight audience members from ages 8-88. This is the second concert of the chorale’s 43rd season Stories: Life Set to Song, and promises an interactive, fun and fresh musical experience. Hosted by special guest David Prather, and with stunning choreography by ArtistsPlus Productions, you won’t want to miss this unique concert on Saturday, April 7th at 2:30pm in Pasadena, or the special encore presentation on April 8th at 4pm in Northridge. Music for the Child in All of Us includes a colorful and eclectic repertoire that illustrates the human voice and the many ways that it can be expressed in singing. “Choral music allows us to travel back in time and geography.” says Artistic Director, John Sutton. “This concert takes audiences on a journey to explore music from all over the globe- Venezuela, Russia, Japan and more.” Included pieces are the Famine Song arranged by Matthew Culloton, which expresses the hope felt by Sudanese basket weavers during the 1980’s famine, and includes the American classic Oh Shenandoah, an arrangement of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star by Daniel Elder, and the humorous Animal Crackers, Volumes I and II by Eric Whittacre. In addition to beautiful music, the Angeles Chorale welcomes special guest host David Prather, whose humor and energy will add an exciting twist for kids and adults alike. Angeles Chorale fans will remember Prather from the LA Phil Family Sing -Alongs, which he and Sutton co-hosted for 11 years. “David is an expert at getting kids on stage,” says Sutton. Audiences are sure to be entertained by the witty banter and humor at the concert Sutton has dubbed “The Young Person’s Guide to the Chorus.” Says Prather “I have the highest regard for John and the Chorale, and look forward to sharing the stage with them once again.” The Angeles Chorale is thrilled to continue their season long partnership with ArtistsPlus Productions, incorporating choreography led by ArtistsPlus Productions Choreographers Shauna Goddard and Diane De Franco Browne to add to the immersive, exciting atmosphere of this unique choral concert. Says Goddard of working with the Angeles Chorale; “the process of planning, rehearsing and ultimately sharing with the audience is so uplifting. John makes the whole experience a delight.” Continues Goddard “Having collaborated with Angeles Chorale in the past, our dancers always comment on how moved they feel to be able to dance with the brilliant voices and incredibly talented musicians that are the Angeles Chorale.” Music for the Child in All of Us promises a delightful afternoon of joyous music for all ages. Recent Angeles Chorale performance highlights include A John Williams Celebration with the LA Phil at Disney Hall in 2014, and Barbra Streisand’s Back to Brooklyn concert at the Hollywood Bowl in 2012. In 2014 the chorale was featured with the LA Phil at the Hollywood Bowl in An Evening of Chinese Splendor and in 2015 the Angeles Chorale performed in Distant Worlds: Music from Final Fantasy at the Microsoft Theater. In December 2015 the Angeles Chorale released An American Christmas, recorded live in concert and featuring works by Morten Lauridsen, Alfred Burt, and Randol Alan Bass. 2017-2018 Concert Season: Stories: Life Set to Song Every life is a story. This season, the Angeles Chorale takes us through the crystalized moments of life, the seasons and events of living, frozen in time. About Artistic Director John Sutton The Chorale’s 2017-2018 concert season marks the eighth under Artistic Director Dr. John Sutton. John’s artistic vision for the Angeles Chorale rests on a foundation of choral excellence in performing music of diverse expressions and styles including major works for choir and orchestra, shorter works from the classical choral canon, works by contemporary choral composers, and folk, gospel, world and pop music. He is a Professor at Azusa Pacific University in the College of Music and the Arts, where he serves as the Director of Choral Activities. ### |
