The Passing of Paul Salamunovich

These five words ring out with a deep sadness as we heard of the death of one of the great choral conductors and musicians of our time. Maestro Salamunovich passed away this past Thursday, April 3, 2014. He was 86.

Paul has been a close and valued friend to the Angeles Chorale organization and family. He served on our Executive Board, our Advisory Board, and brought his immense experience and wisdom to the table with graceful candor, and humorous wit. One of the greatest joys for us as an ensemble was being under Maestro Salamunovich’s musical leadership and conducting for our performance in 2004 of Haydn’s Mass in Time of War.

Paul was a bulwark of support to our Angeles Chorale family, attending concerts, fundraising events, and giving of himself tirelessly to promote the mission of our singers. It is a huge loss to the members and family of the Angeles Chorale, and to the entire choral world. We join all choral music lovers in mourning his loss.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Salamunvich family and his beloved wife, Dottie.

Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine; et lux perpetua luceat eis,

John Sutton,
