JOHN SUTTON NAMED ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA’S RENOWNED CHORAL ORGANIZATION, THE ANGELES CHORALE

LOS ANGELES, CA, November 15, 2010 – John Sutton, a distinguished choral conductor and educator, has been named Artistic Director of the Angeles Chorale, the 120-member musical organization that has entertained and inspired Southern California audiences for over 35 years. In his new role as Artistic Director, Dr. Sutton follows Donald Neuen, who led the Angeles Chorale since 1996 and will serve as Resident Guest Conductor in coming years.

“With his considerable depth and range of experience in community, academic, church and entertainment settings, John Sutton is uniquely qualified to lead the Angeles Chorale as we enter our 36th year,” said Nancy Rahnasto Osborne and Mary Whittemore, co-chairs of the board and members of the Chorale. “Speaking for all our fellow singers, we’re excited about working with John to continue bringing world-class music to the world-class Southern California audience!”

“I’ve been a longtime admirer of the Angeles Chorale, and, more recently, a proud participant in their great choral music tradition,” said Dr. Sutton, who served as Principal Conductor of the chorale during the 2008-09 season. “I’m thrilled at the opportunity to build upon the Chorale’s amazing legacy while also extending the repertoire to reflect our dynamic, diverse local community.”
The 120-voice Angeles Chorale is a volunteer organization of professional-level singers from throughout the metropolitan Los Angeles area. Their repertoire reflects the Chorale’s mission to present vocal music of the highest caliber, enhance the musical abilities of its singers, and broaden appreciation for fine choral music in the Los Angeles community. The 2010-2011 season will commence with “A Baroque Christmas” on December 11, followed by “For the Children” on March 26 and “Opera Gala II” on June 4. Full details of the 2010-2011 season will be announced shortly.

The Angeles Chorale has performed with the area’s leading orchestras, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the Pasadena Symphony, and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, as well as numerous appearances with the American Youth Symphony.
